The home communion visitation team is a group of people, as part of their faith journey, who go and visit folks who are homebound for various reasons. We are equipped with all the tools necessary to provide communion in people’s homes. Our communion kits include consecrated wine and wafers and a small chalice. The kit box serves as a small altar. We may choose to read from the “Jesus Calling” enjoying peace in his presence by Sarah Young, a daily devotion or a scripture reading. A large print worship bulletin is used when serving communion.

As a team we meet on a quarterly basis to review our visiting list and share our heartwarming experiences and concerns in support of each other. The first Sunday of each month we participate in the sending of communion during the Sunday morning worship service. We bring our communion kits, receive a blessing as we go out to visit during the month and pray for each person on the home visitation list. The only cost to doing this ministry is gas if the visit happens to be out of the Eleva area. We also communicate via a group text. The only requirement of being a part of this team is your willingness to serve, enjoy visiting with folks and sharing your kindness, faith and love for others.

Another piece to our ministry is the gift of a prayer shawl. Prayer shawls are handmade gifts of well wishes, into which blessings and prayers have been lovingly stitched for the recipients in need, offering comfort, warmth and joy. A note card goes with the prayer shawl that says “Dear Friend – It is our prayer that you will use this shawl as a mantle of love: wrap it around you when you feel down, when you sleep, when you pray, whenever you feel a need for love and support”. Our team hears over and over from recipients what an impact their prayer shawl made in their lives.

Both the home communion visitation ministry and prayer shawl ministry are such a rewarding ministry and faith building experience. Just visit with a team member and they will be happy to share the joy on how this ministry adds to each of their faith journeys. If this ministry sounds interesting or piques your curiosity,
