A church circle is a small group of women who have an informal gathering on a regular basis for
Christian friendship that typically involves a Bible study, great conversation, socialization, laughter and
often a sweet treat or potluck. Meeting places can be at one’s home, at the church, at a park or some
other setting. The Bible study can come from various sources.
Lydia Circle was started by Jan Franck as she wanted to have an evening circle group option for women. We choose a book then read the chapter ahead of time and come to the discussion with things we found interesting or have questions on and we usually discuss some of the study questions. Please note that reading ahead of time is not required to participate as the discussions are still beneficial even without reading the study. We meet monthly at 6:00 p.m, date TBD.
We take turns hosting for the month and meet at either someone’s home or the church. The one that hosts provides the “treat”. We usually have a holiday potluck and a summer potluck at the park. Lydia Circle has also completed a couple of overnight retreats over the years.
There are ministries circles you can be part of. Lydia Circle sends out “Thinking of You” and “Sympathy” cards every month when we meet and we have served soup suppers at Lent and provided raffle baskets for the Harvest Dinner. Costs are minimal, usually just the material for the study. Lydia Circle does take up a free-will offering that goes towards the cards, postage and other causes, such as purchasing items for the Lutheran World Relief personal care kits and high school senior quilts.
What is a Church Circle?
A church circle is a small group of women who have an informal gathering on a regular basis for Christian friendship that typically involves a Bible study, great conversation, socialization, laughter and often a sweet treat or potluck. Meeting places can be at one’s home, at the church, at a park or some other setting. The Bible study can come from various sources.
Circles often choose a name to identify themselves by. At Eleva Lutheran, there are currently two circles that meet monthly. Charity Circle meets during the day and Lydia Circle meets in the evening. Circles provide an opportunity for women to grow in faith, to strengthen relationships with each other and to support one another. If you have an interest for a new circle group, please let Pastor Karen know.
