Please see the 2022-2023 SUNDAY SCHOOL CALENDAR for important dates and to follow along in our curriculum lessons for the year!
We kicked off our Sunday School year on September 25th at worship service and began class on October 2nd. We currently have about 35 families actively involved in our program (about 55 students). A special thank you to our volunteer teachers Karrie Hillestad (4K), Kyli Zahara (5K), Kelsey Nyseth (1st grade), Cara Lueck (2nd grade), Cheryl Olson (3rd and 4th grades), and Tosha Bishopp (5th and 6th graders).
Some updates with our Sunday School program include changing the grades in which students receive their Bibles and First Communion to space out our major events across the grade levels, allow our students to be more involved in the worship services, and hopefully better serve them in their faith journeys.
This year, 2nd and 3rd graders are receiving the Picture the Bibles. Next year, 1st and 2nd graders will be receiving them and from that point forward 1st graders will receive these keepsake, easier to read Bibles to use in Sunday School and at home as they learn about the various stories of the Bible. The 5th graders will receive the NRSV Bibles to keep and use as they are more advanced readers while finishing their Sunday School instruction and moving on to confirmation classes. Thank you very much for the generosity of our Men's and Women's groups for sponsoring these tools in our kids' faith journeys.
First Communion will now be received by 3rd graders as a change initiated by Pastor Karen and approved by the Education Committee to allow students to feel more connected to the service and receive communion along with their families and not be segregated because of their age. This year, 4th graders will also receive their first holy sacrament along with the 3rd graders to "catch up". We will be trialing completing this distribution of First Communion at our Maundy Thursday service on April 6, 2023.
Thank you again to our teachers, families, and congregation for supporting our Sunday School program and the investment in and development of our youth's faith!
