About Intercessory Prayers

Intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of others. As Christians, God calls all of us to be intercessors. That means we are called to pray for and on behalf of one another. We often think of offering prayers when it comes to physical sickness, disease, and pain but Intercessory Prayers takes many forms depending on what the need might be.

We might pray for the healing of creation’s wounds that come from the misuse of land, the

pollution of the water and air making it unsafe to drink and breath. Our prayers can embrace those suffering the ravages of war, racial or ethnic divisions, or society’s structural injustices.

In addition to these prayers of lament, we can offer prayers of joy and celebration too. Perhaps a

marriage or anniversary, the birth of a child or a birthday, a new place to live or employment.

We can offer prayers of gratitude for a beautiful sunset, lunch with a friend, or a family gathering.

Beginning in September we will be offering our intercessory prayers on behalf of each other. We

will ask people to share their prayer requests during the service and then we will light a candle. .
